Report By. Dr. Amelia Constantinou URGC Ambassador
The European Union is struggling to respond to a surge of desperate migrants that has resulted in more than 3,000 deaths, many perishing or missing in the Mediterranean sea crossing or land, since the start of 2015. The tsunami of migrants and refugees, the largest movement of people Europe has seen since 1945, has raised doubt about open-borders and provoked a dispute over sharing the burden as well ass the true identity and security of who Europe is letting into their borders.
The largest group of people reaching Europe through the Mediterranean or the western Balkans are Syrians and Iraqis fleeing a civil war but mostly migrating from Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey as settled refugees, but there are also many from Eritrea, Kosovo, Nigeria, and Afghanistan, the flooding of refugees into Europe is not dominantly Syrian as we are led to believe.
We need to separate between migrants and refugees fleeing a war zone and those who are already in safe refugee camps in bordering hosting countries under the protection and care of the hosting country and the UN

H.E. Angela Merkel, German chancellor, has applied generous policy towards refugees, taking the lead in speaking out about Europe’s obligations. Germany expects to receive 800,000 asylum seekers this year — more than the whole of the EU combined in 2014.
H.E. Angela Merkel directs her argument towards the Syrian refugee crisis when the reality of the refugees entering into Europe are not mainly Syrian, they are Iraqi, Eastern Europe and African and mostly migrants not refugees. |
The key migratipn roots can be seePushed by civil war and terror and pulled by the promise of a better life, hundreds of thousands of people have fled Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, risking their lives along the way.
Countries that have felt the major blow of such a crisis has and still is Greece, Austria, and Hungary.
Among the forces driving people to take such risks are the conflicts raging in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and human rights abuses in Eritrea. The majority - 62% - of those who have reached Europe by boat are from those three countries.
There are also people setting out from Libya, Sudan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kosovo, Iraq, Iran Darfur, Somalia and other countries in the hope of a new life, heading towards Greece and migrating thereon to Italy, Germany, France or the UK.
The key migration roots can be seen on the map below
We must address who controls these migration roots? they are controlled by criminal organisations that fund terrorism which goes towards creating more refugees, thus continuing the supply of funding of terrorism.
The only solution to refugee crisis is resettlement and in cases where resettlement is not possible then investment is required to be applied to hosting countries to offer permanent family housing, education, health services and socioeconomic infrastructure that provides opportunities for long term stable employment.
The cost for the international community and UN to provide new housing and sustainable socioeconomic infrastructure in resettlement programs and or to hosting countries would be 10% of that of the cost in housing refugees and migrants in Europe
Refugees have lost their homes, and many still living in tents for over 4 years and those who have found accommodation are being persecuted by landlords demanding unrealistic and astronomical rents, the refugee finds that there is no hope in sight of resettling back to their home and home land and in their current situation as refugee in a hosting country they cannot see any future for themselves and family, so they feel and believe they have no other choice but to migrate to Europe and the service providers to offer such crossing by boat into Europe are criminal organisations who feed terrorism and are ready to assist for a price of $500.00 - $25,000 USD per person to cross the sea to reach Greece with a 50/50 chance of getting to your destination alive, which the refugee is aware of, yet is willing to take the risk for himself and often his wife and children, yet they do take that life risk, willing to sacrifice all, which expresses the desperation these people face.
It is obvious that refugees and migrants have lost hope, they no longer believe that the international community or the UN will resolve their issues, and losing hope leads to desperation. The UN and international community needs to announce direct to the refugee communities assurances of what plans are in progress to help them so that such people can see and feel that they still matter which reassures them that the international community is working towards a future for them.

''THE MAJORITY OF REFUGEES ENTERING EUROPE ARE NOT SYRIANS''
MOST REFUGEES & MIGRANTS CLAIM TO E SYRIAN SO AS TO GAIN ASYLUM
MOST REFUGEES & MIGRANTS CLAIM TO E SYRIAN SO AS TO GAIN ASYLUM
The figures from Eurostat, the EU's official statistical agency, show that migration from April to June was running at double the level of the same period in 2014.
The number of Afghans lodging asylum claims is up four-fold, from 6,300 to 27,000. Another 17,700 claims were made by Albanians, whose country is at peace.
A further 13,900 applicants came from Iraq which, like Syria, is being torn apart by the Islamic State terror group.
This exposes the lie peddled in some quarters that vast numbers of those reaching Europe are from Syria.
David Davies, Tory MP for Monmouth Half a million migrants have arrived in Europe so far this year, with 156,000 coming in August alone. Rather than claiming asylum in the first safe EU country they reach, most head on toward wealthy northern states. The human cost of the crisis has been paid by the estimated 3,000 migrants who have drowned after putting their lives in the hands of people smugglers for the perilous crossing of the Mediterranean.
Risks being taken by many families were highlighted by the deaths of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi and his brother Galip, five, whose bodies were washed up on the tourist beach of Bodrum in Turkey earlier this month.
More than 250,000 migrants have reached Greece and Italy, where the authorities are close to breaking point.

REMOVE THE DESPERATION
CREATE HOPE CREATE HOUSING CREATE STABILITY SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROVIDE THE TOOLS GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE- INDEPENDENTLY THEN WE WILL SEE A MAJOR REDUCTION OF REFUGEES & MIGRATION ENTERING EUROPE ALL THIS IS POSSIBLE AT A FRACTION OF THE COST REQUIRED TO CARE & HOUSE REFUGEES IN EUROPE, ITS TIME SOMETHING POSITIVE IS DONE TO GIVE BACK THE DIGNITY & LIVES OF REFUGEES |
Syrian Refugees find it very difficult to migrate from Lebanon & Jordan, but easier from Turkey. The vast majority of Syrian refugees want to simply go back home, they want to return to their homeland and even those who have reached Europe cannot wait to be able to return back home to Syria.
Before the war in Syria, Syrians led a high quality of life and their life style and quality of life was far higher than anything Europe has to offer them today, and the vast majority of actual Syrian refugees in Europe cannot wait to return back to Syria. Other refugees and migrants from other countries using the Syrian false identity by disposing of their passports and claiming to be Syrian refugees and claim asylum are entering Europe as Syrian refugees and if Europe is unable to detect this then what else are they not detecting? Who is entering Europe and how do we distinguish who is a threat and who is not, what are the adequate screening processes in place that protects citizens of Europe and genuine asylum seekers and refugees seeking refuge and asylum in Europe. Are we allowing Terrorist disguised as refugees into Europe? We would pray that is not the case and we need to not prejudice against refugees or migrants entering Europe, but that does not mean we should sit in hope that all that enter Europe are genuine refugees and migrants, we need to apply security measures that focus on genuine refugees, and the international community to focus upon applying funding that will improve lives and socioeconomic stability of refugees in resettlement programs and within hosting countries. THE WORLD HAS DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY HAD A HAND ON DESTROYING THE LIVES OF THESE PEOPLE WE ALL KNOW NOW AS REFUGEES WE NOW HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO RETURN & RESTORE THEM BACK TO THEIR LIVES AND HOMES
|
STOP THE MIGRATION & HUMAN TRAFFICKING ROOTS, WHICH STOPS CRIMINAL FUNDING OF TERRORISM, WHICH GREATLY REDUCES THE ABILITY OF TERRORIST TO CONTINUE THEIR TERROR, GREATLY REDUCES MIGRATION, WHICH MEANS INTERNATIONAL FUNDING CAN BE CONCENTRATED UPON THE REBUILDING OF HOUSING, SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, AGRICULTURE, SOCIOECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE, GIVING INDEPENDENCE BACK TO REFUGEES & HOPE & OPPORTUNITY TO REBUILD THEIR LIVES BACK IN THEIR COUNTRY OR HOSTING COUNTRIES
ALL OF THIS IS ACHIEVABLE AT A FRACTION OF THE COST REQUIRED TO HOUSE & CARE FOR REFUGEES IN EUROPE WHO MOST WILL EVENTUALLY END UP RETURNING BACK TO THEIR HOMELAND WHICH MEANS THIS COST WILL STILL NEED TO BE MET BY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNIT
