SOUTH SUDAN REFUGEES ARE STARVING
SOUTH SUDAN REFUGEES ARE STARVING
THE SOUTH SUDAN FOOD CRISIS IS THE WORSE IN THE WORLD
It said by the UN there was a "catastrophic food insecurity" in the country, urging donor nations who pledged $618m (£364m) in aid to make good on their promise.
The UN children's fund, Unicef, said some four million - a third of the population - could be affected.
According to reports from the Vassili Group Ltd, 4.8 million people are already affected
It said by the UN that 50,000 children may die of hunger in the conflict-torn country unless international help increased.
According to the Vassili Group Ltd, the figure of children likely to die from starvation and disease is more realistically to be 500,000
More than two million people have fled their homes since fighting erupted between different factions of South Sudan's ruling party last December.
Thousands have now died in the conflict that started as a political dispute between President Salva Kiir and his deputy Riek Machar but has since escalated into ethnic violence, same fight under a different banner.
Months of fighting, drought, lack, safety have prevented farmers from planting or harvesting crops, causing food shortages nationwide. Fear is the name of the game, terrify the people into displacement and refugee status
Bringing food into the country is another major issue, due to being a land locked country and relying upon sea port in Kenya and from thereon by land transportation of food to reach the country, from which such land transportation of food does not all reach its destination.
The South Sudan Government was approached by the Vassili Group Ltd a Cyprus based company to help establish sustainable and stable hydroponic centers which will locally produce and harvest up to 5-million crops per day, fresh water fish farm that will harvest up to 500-tons per day, an investment offered by the Vassili Group Ltd to help overcome the food crisis and provide local food produce, bringing sustainability and stability to food suppl, on a level that would provide sufficient local food produce for the entire nation, thus eradicating food shortages permanently. A noble and honorable as well as expression of interest by the Vassili Group to help eradicate food shortages and hunger/starvation in South Sudan, but given the ever increasing instability, it becomes somewhat concerning on how such companies as the Vassili Group and other international companies can apply their abilities and willingness to assist South Sudan when there is this ongoing struggle that pushes back assistance.
It is not due to lack of international aid organisations or international companies wanting to invest in the food stability and infrastructure of South Sudan that is the problem, the reality is that there are many organisations who are willing to assist, but if the local people are to frightened to tend to their crops, what is there to say about the foreigners offering to go there to assist?
Security must be established to allow farmers to attend their fields and crops and to allow foreign aid and investment to be assured of that same security and safety so that the country can regain its stability in local food produce, this must be realized by all sides to this dispute ion South Sudan.
The future of South Sudan is its people which most will perish through starvation. The population of South Sudan is 11.3-million people, of which 4.8-million have no access to food. This accounts for 43% of the population, why don't we think about that figure for a second? and now imaging 43% of your population in your country, your nation, your home not having access to food, a basic need for survival, and maybe you can get a better picture of what life is like in South Sudan.
All nations must start to realize that the realistic issues in South Sudan far exceed what is being reported, it is not 1.1 million refugees it is in excess of 4 million, it is not 1.5 million people without food it is 4.8 million people who all need urgent aid to South Sudan.
More international companies like the Vassili Group are needed to offer investment in constructive areas that assures, food supply, water supply, power supply, housing, health and education, we cannot only aim to provide aid, aid is essential, but equally as essential in investment in infrastructure that provides sustainability and stability locally, so that foreign companies can apply investment safely and securely, investment aimed at essential infrastructure that help increase life chances must be realized and applied.
With all the goodwill in the world, the instability of South Sudan does not make it easy for any of the above to be applied with efficiency.
So what is the solution, well, their are no shortages of suggested solutions, what there is a great shortage of is security and political stability to allow such solutions to be applied.
